Cook / Food Service Worker

Position Summary
The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality meals in accordance with planned menus, dietary requirements, and food safety standards. This role ensures that all food is prepared on schedule, properly portioned, and presented attractively for patients, staff, and guests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Review planned menus to determine types and quantities of meats, vegetables, soups, and other foods to be prepared.
- Prepare food in accordance with forecasted meal counts and established recipes.
- Ensure all meals are ready at designated serving times.
- Consult with the supervisor on the use of leftovers to minimize waste.
- Coordinate with the Operations Manager regarding modified or special diets as needed.
- Oversee Food Service Aides in washing, trimming, and preparing ingredients.
- Measure and mix ingredients using blenders, mixers, grinders, slicers, and other kitchen equipment.
- Prepare sauces, soups, stews, casseroles, and desserts meeting established dietary and quality guidelines.
- Cook meats, fish, and poultry into individual servings following menu specifications and diet orders.
- Test foods for proper doneness and adjust heat or seasoning as needed to ensure quality flavor and texture.
- Follow all guidelines for safe and sanitary food handling and observe infection control practices.
- Maintain kitchen and equipment in a clean, neat, and organized manner.
- Label, date, store, and rotate food items properly to ensure freshness and compliance with standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in institutional or healthcare food service preferred.
- Knowledge of safe food handling standards and proper sanitation practices.
- Excellent time management and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow standardized recipes and portion control guidelines.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Lift or move objects up to [insert weight, e.g., 40 lbs].
- Exposure to heat, steam, and kitchen equipment.
