OPERATION TITLE: Power Saw
SUMMARY: Set up and operate a power saw and straightness test machine. This position may also require the operation of other pieces of equipment in the plant.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
- Must be able to lift 70 pounds repeatedly – a minimum of 2 times per day.
- Makes own set-up including:
- Sets and adjusts stops, clamps, saw travel, etc. on saw and travel and position of indicator on straightness tester.
- Nests material for multi-sawing of parts on saw.
- Regulates and positions coolant flow on saw.
- Positions and sets drill motor on straightness test machine.
- Positions and clamps tail stock for various lengths of plungers and casings on straightness tester.
- Sets speed and feed of saw.
- Directs loading of material on saw storage rack, and removal of parts or material from work area.
- Removes sawed parts and tested parts from machines with electric hoist.
- Changes saw blades when needed.
- Files and deburrs ends of pipe before loading into straightness tester.
- Marks pipe as per outlined procedure.
- Engages drill motor for drill cycle.
- Operates single spindle drill and makes set ups to drill parts per print.
- Records number of parts produced on timecard and move ticket.
- Performs housekeeping duties as necessary to keep work area safe, clean and in good order.
- Operator checks job travelers for special instructions or notes BEFORE proceeding with job assigned.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
- Receives job prints, work order, and/or instructions from supervisor and proceeds with a minimum of supervision and direction.
- Sets up and operates power saw to cut materials to required length or shape.
- Install and change saw blades, set stops and gauges for length of cut, material feed mechanism, and saw speeds for type of material.
- Works from cutting orders, blueprints, and material code charts, check straightness, and drill holes in plunger as required.
- Sets end of plunger as prescribed in instructions.
- Drills hole in casing using single spindle drill.
- Operator changes drills and stops as required.
- Must be able to read and write and to read shop drawings and make computations effectively and efficiently.
- Uses hoist to move heavy materials.
- Performs other work of similar or comparable nature incidental to the performance of the operation.
- Assists new operators in learning the correct and safe operation of the equipment when required.
- Takes good workman like care of the machines, tools, equipment, work areas, etc.
