Malone Solutions is currently hiring a skilled Senior Repairman to perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs on railcars, trailers, bogies, coupler mates, and related rail equipment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring equipment remains in safe and reliable operating condition while meeting customer, company, and industry standards.
These are permanent direct-hire opportunities.
Base Pay: $23.32
Repairman (All Levels)
Job Summary
Senior Repairmen are expected to maintain appropriate welding certifications, perform train inspections and initial air brake tests, and demonstrate mastery of all Repairman duties with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain a personal set of tools, as specified by management, sufficient to perform assigned repair and inspection functions.
- Inspect railcars, train consists, trailers, bogies, coupler mates, railcars, and rail equipment for serviceability.
- Identify and perform authorized repairs in accordance with company, customer, and industry standards.
- Notify management of “Bad Order” (unserviceable) equipment.
- Accurately document repairs, labor hours, and parts used.
- Perform and document inspections and repairs as qualified, including:
- FHWA DOT inspections
- Customer preventive maintenance inspections
- CFR 215 Freight Car Safety Standards
- CFR 231 Railroad Safety Appliance Standards
- CFR 232 Brake Systems Safety Standards for Freight Cars
- Maintain accountability for assigned equipment and company-issued tools.
Experience
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to successfully perform inspection and repair functions.
Skills, Licenses, and Certifications
- Valid driver's license (if required for operation of company equipment).
- Ability to meet and maintain all Conditions of Employment requirements.
- AWS D15.1 Welding Certification preferred or required for qualified positions.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
This position requires work in a physically demanding outdoor environment and the ability to:
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, dust, and noise.
- Climb ladders and work at heights exceeding 16 feet.
- Lift up to 50 pounds above shoulder height occasionally.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
- Occasionally work in confined spaces with less than 12 inches of vertical clearance.
- Bend, crouch, squat, twist, and walk on uneven surfaces throughout the shift.
- Walk up to 3 miles during train inspections while performing repetitive bending and twisting motions.
- Sustain awkward working positions, including overhead work, for extended periods.
- Hear and understand verbal work and safety instructions.
- Properly wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Additional Requirements for Roadrailer Facilities
- Adjust semi-trailer support legs requiring up to 100 lbs. of torque.
- Frequently operate impact tools while squatting and holding up to 30 lbs.
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 60 lbs.
- Open trailer doors requiring up to 75 lbs. of force.
